Bright Eyes (you know, the big sunglasses shopping franchise) have a big annual conference every winter. The 2010 event was located in Port Douglas, with most events held at Rydges Sabaya where the delegates also stayed. The Gala Event, however, was held offsite at the incredible Mowbray Valley venue Flames of the Forest.
I was employed by Rydges Sabaya and IC Events (the conference event coordinators) to cover a number of their events, but the Flames of the Forest evening was by far the most photogenic and I really wanted to share some of the scenes from that gorgeous evening! SO here they are. Please enjoy!

Victoria and Tom are very much a no-fuss kind of couple. They wanted their wedding day to be as simple as possible, and their wedding photography to be as unobtrusive (ie quick and painless!) as possible. I spent two hours with them, at the lovely ceremony at St Mary’s and then a quick half hour shooting family and formals followed by more wedding photojournalism style photography shots at the Sugar Wharf for their cocktail party. Quite the fun, whirlwind event.
It was a heavily overcast day which was great since Victoria really wanted black and white photos and heavy clouds look so fabulous in B&W. Here are a few for you to peek at. Enjoy!

I’m not much of a landscape photographer (portraits being more my thing) but when I put this up on my facebook page it stirred a bit of interest so I thought I’d share it here with you guys.
Night photography is becoming one of my favourite photographic challenges….. expect to see loads more over the coming months.
I shot this last night on my way home from snapping pics at a corporate event. The clouds parted suddenly, revealing the full moon and I did a little dance knowing that all my camera gear and tripods were in the car already…. There is a lovely lookout on the top of the hill that overlooks Four Mile Beach and provides quite the postcard view. I was dying to see how it looked at night on a long exposure shot. Came out alright, don’t you think?

Harriet is a frikken Amazon. Tall, lean, fit, muscular, gorgeous! A photographers dream. (She’s so gonna cringe when she reads this!) This was her first ever photographic sitting. But we had a lot of fun, and it won’t be the last…. She’s also helping me find more people to sit for me here in Port Douglas. If you are a local, and you would be up for doing a free creative portrait session for my portfolio, just leave me a comment and I’ll get in touch. I’m not after traditionally “beautiful” people at all. Anyone with some presence and character would be perfect.

Bob and Di have survived kids, cancer and strokes with a resilience to be admired. Great people, they like to laugh a lot. I think that’s their secret.

Akiko Otao is a rising opera star based in Tokyo. I was in Tokyo for a few days last week buying some new lenses and we got together for a quick late afternoon shoot in a gorgeous little park in Hiro.

I have already put up a few of the pictures from this series but I wasn’t happy with the edits until now, so thought I’d run them again, to help launch the newlook website.
The Cabaret / Burlesque Scene is Tokyo is really starting to take off, I was really lucky to be a part of it during my time there. There is not a lot of cabaret/burlesque in North Queensland, that’s for sure and I certainly miss the photogenic joys of these natural born performers.
Please enjoy the gorgeous Cherry Typhoon (currently on a world tour), Erochica Bamboo and Miss Cabaretta!

Hibiscus Resort is a gorgeous tropical oasis right in the heart of Port Douglas. I was lucky enough to be assigned the job of shooting the Resorts new promo photographs, and the brief was to concentrate on the details, and to try to capture some of the tranquil intimacy this boutique resort offers. A delightful job.

Anita asked me to try to capture some portraits of her very anti-photo parents when they were up here for a brief holiday recently. She and her siblings had almost no pictures of them! I happily obliged and managed to get the busy couple to stay still long enough to grab a handful of lovely portraits.
When we finished up little Lola turned on her VOGUE skills and I couldn’t resist grabbing a bunch of shots of the little urchin.
