The Chho Family

Lara and Eric are a really creative couple, and their 3 kids are these adorable bundles of curiosity and joy. On New Years Eve I peddled my mini-studio over to the other side of Kichijoji and set up in their tatami room for some family portraits. It was such a pleasure, and editing them was even more fun because I was allowed to really play with the images. This was the first time I played confidently with things like borders and textures to create dreamy film-like art pieces because the clients had artistic tendencies themselves and wanted me to knock them out. The challenge was on! The images I have posted here are a wide sampler of the different things I tried here, and a part of the final collection as chosen by the clients.
Sarah

Back in December, before I left Tokyo, I got a flurry of really cool portrait jobs. Sarah is works in the corporate sector and needed some new photo’s that reflected her new look and approach for the wide array of work she was involved with. We called in the very talented Jeanette from StyleSmartSensei to do Sarah’s hair, makeup and outfits while I set up my little mini-studio. Sarah is such a star, she kept us all chuckling all night long as we fussed over her and made her feel like a member of royalty. A great night, a great shoot and great results.
Dave G

Dave G is a comedian in Tokyo, and needed some new publicity shots for his work, and for a new book he’s working on. It was a fun day, we got some great shots.
Tracey and Ashley's Engagement shots

Ashley recently popped the question to Tracey and she, of course, said hell yes! These are some of their engagement photo’s. It was a delight to shoot, they are such great people and I wish them all sorts of joy and passion in their married life.
Bellydancer Lisa

Lisa is a semi-pro bellydancer. Recently she performed in a big bellydance show, and hired a special costume for 2 weeks especially for the show. It was so gorgeous that she asked me to get some pic’s of her wearing it for her future publicity shots. Fabulous. I went to see the show, it was bloody fantabulous. All those gorgeous curves and costumes! A photographers dream.
Sandi
Sandi & I had both been wanting to do a glamour shoot in the style of old Hollywood for a long time. June 1 & 2, we spent the weekend setting up and shooting 1200 photos in about 8 different scenes, experimenting with lighting, props and backgrounds, costumes and makeup. Not everything worked, but it was a great experiment and we are both delighted with the results.
Mint/Snip: I'm getting published!
Good news! The pictures I took for my friends Yoko and Nana at Mint Salon for Snip Magazine will be published in a 2 page spread next month.
We did the shoot last weekend in a little office in Ebisu, and had a lot of collaborative fun setting up the lighting, backdrops and individual shoots.
Thanks very much to our fabulous models, Jakub and Yuko and to Misaki, Nana and Yoko for providing me with the opportunity to get some shots I’m really happy with.
Jakub
Junko is a make-up artist, based at Mint Hair & Make-up Salon in Ebisu. She called me last week to ask if I’d be interested in doing a shoot for a young Polish model, Jakub. I happily agreed and we made a plan. She would do his make-up and Misaki (Mint) would do his hair, then they’d come to my place to do the shoot. We spent about 4 hours playing around and got some wonderful results. I was stoked to hear that Jakub was so happy with the results that he’s asked to come back for another shoot in March. You can see some of the pictures at my Flickr page.
