Got a phone call yesterday from the good people at the Head On Portrait Prize with the great news that the photo above, of Tokyo based burlesque dancer Cherry Typhoon, made it through to the final 40 and will become part of the exhibition at the Australia Centre For Photography in Sydney, from April 30. I [...]
My photography classes in Port Douglas, Mossman and Daintree will take you through technical, subject and project based learning. We’ll study the basics of the camera setting triangle: ISO, shutterspeed and aperture, as well as understanding the power of light and framing. We’ll practice what you learn throughout the lesson by doing photo walks, then bringing the images back to the computer for post production. I’ll introduce the different kinds of software available for post production in the digital darkroom, and show you how to use them.
I have just finished working on my Port Douglas Wedding Packages PDF, it covers elopement packages as well as regular wedding packages so if you are considering keeping it super simple and eloping, then drop me a line at martinecottonphotography@gmail.com. Oh, and I’m always up for a Trash the Dress session!

Swanky new logos designed by the outrageously talented London based Australian designer Chris Cotton at 37percentpolyester. What a star he is. If you need a fantastic designer, (don’t believe me? Check out his portfolio!) go straight to his website and get in touch with him.
Finally. Finished. That. Damn. Portfolio. Site. www.martinecotton.com. Go check it out. No doubt there will be glitches and growing pains but, well…. it’s mostly done. In my efforts to build a bigger and better site than this one, I have been lacksadaisical about updating here Apologies! It’s been a busy couple of months, with work on a number of collaborative shoots with Mint Hair & Makeup Salon, make up artist Junko Watanabe and a number of models. Also a bunch [...]
Good news! The pictures I took for my friends Yoko and Nana at Mint Salon for Snip Magazine will be published in a 2 page spread next month. We did the shoot last weekend in a little office in Ebisu, and had a lot of collaborative fun setting up the lighting, backdrops and individual shoots. [...]
I’m a regular reader of photoblogs.org and a few weeks back they offered up a comp for a years subscription to www.photoshelter.com. Guess who the lucky winner was? I’m quite delighted – I’ve been investigating the many different ways to archive and sell my stuff online for ages. I did sign up with smugmug but [...]
