Photography is what I LOVE to do and I am blessed that I can call myself a photographer. I love reportage style photography, cinematic images, natural light, dramatic light, shallow depth of field, moments frozen in time, a subject who will stare me down…..
Many years ago, I achieved a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Film and Media. My final year film project won best short film and best cinematography at the 1989 Qld Young Film Makers Awards. I’ve always been passionate about cinematography and photography, though it took moving to a foreign country before I believed I could truly make a living from art. In 2002, in Japan, I started a photo blog, and through that outlet the job offers started – unexpectedly – flooding in. Ad agencies in L.A., car magazines in Germany. With the encouragement of family and friends, my photography career naturally evolved through personal passion and serendipity. I worked in Tokyo as a photographer, event manager and English teacher, staging five photo exhibitions and photographing performers, weddings, hair & makeup models and events.
I relocated my photography business to Port Douglas in early 2009 from Tokyo, Japan. Based in the Cairns, Northern Beaches, Port Douglas and Daintree areas, I offer photographic and post-production photo services for portraits, weddings / elopements / commitment ceremonies, events, commercial products, real estate, travel, editorial, fashion and beauty, bands and live performances. I love to travel and can offer an an inclusive travel package for weddings or events outside the FNQ area.
In March 2010, one of my photos from the Tokyo Burlesque Dancers series was accepted into the final 40 in the Head On Portrait Prize (from 2500 entries) and was included in the Head On Photo Festival Exhibition at the Australian Centre for Photography, Sydney in May.
I hold emerging membership with the Australian Institute of Professional Photography, and operate professionally within AIPP Guidelines and Code of Ethics.
My clients have included Vogue Australia Entertaining and Food magazine, the Port Douglas and Mossman Gazette newspaper (where I have worked as a staff photographer since March 2009), Hibiscus Resort and Spa, Rydges Sabaya Resort, C I Events, Events NQ, Managing Australian Destinations, Port Douglas Carnivale, The Courier Mail, Sassi Balé, Ulysses Getaways, Metropolis Magazine (Tokyo), Snip Magazine (Tokyo), The Hiragana Times (Tokyo), Ping Magazine (Tokyo), www.drsketchystokyo.com, ‘Big in Japan: A Ghost Story’ (Chin Music Press), Audi Car Magazine (Germany), Japan Australia Society, Tokyo English Life Line, Engagement & wedding couples and model/actor/comedian/musician/band/burlesque performers.
