Burlesque Scene in Tokyo

I was lucky enough to become involved in the Tokyo Burlesque Scene through my work as the photographer for the Tokyo Dr Sketchy’s group. In the last month before I left Japan to return to Australia, the stars of the scene and I began a photographic collaboration that will hopefully lead us all to bigger and better things. Here are some teaser shots from those sessions…. I am looking forward to playing with these images some more.

    Burlesque is such a great subject, isn’t it? Let me know when you’re coming to Seattle, because we have the same Dr Sketchy’s-burlesque connection here.

    Hi Martine,

    I found your blog and your website throgh it, really nice work you have here.

    I was interested in your Burlesque work, one of my friends, Paule Saviano, a photographer from New York did an exhibition in Asakusa at gallery EF on American Burlesque dancers and the show went through China and Europe as well. Through him I met Cherry Typhoon and we photographed Erochika Bamboo in the Trump room http://web.mac.com/willrobbphotography/iWeb/Site/People.html as well. Small world.

    First of all congratulation for you’re pics they’re really full of energy and I love the location and the mood of the photoset!
    I’m an Italian Burlesque dancer and also the Art Director of the most important Burlesque Festival in Italy the Burlesque Garden http://www.burlesquegardenviareggio.com.

    In October I’ll be in Japan and I’ll visit many cities. Which club would you suggest for burlesque?

    Hi Scarlett,

    You should get in touch with the three ladies above. The only Burlesque Scenes that I am aware of exist in Tokyo and Kyoto/Osaka. Theere aren’t really any Burlesque Clubs, but the girls put their own shows on.
